Basic Instinct: Concede or Get Laid Off

Hey, you can all rest easy, folks. We have it in print that the governor
said his "basic instinct is to save people's jobs. If there is a way I can do it and minimize the number of layoffs, I will take that."
That's in the Harrisburg Patriot-News on Monday March 9th 2009 at 2:57 PM under the headline "Rendell leans toward cutting employee hours, not jobs" by Jan Murphy.

What a relief!

Of course, he also says that if the unions don't give in to his demands for concessions before the end of March, then there
will be immediate layoffs or temporary shutdowns of certain aspects of state government that would cause many more workers to miss an occasional days' pay.
Seems to us that his basic instinct always comes back around to layoffs and furloughs.
